WHAT IS DINER EN BLANC?
Imagine going to an extravagant dinner with lines upon lines of tables dressed up with the most sparkly and ostentatious center pieces you have ever seen. The sky is dim and everywhere you look, there are white linens, balloons, and streamers. It looks like a french masquerade wedding out of a fairy tale. Everyone is dressed in the purest of white and yet no two people are dressed the same. But imagine that after spending hours of eating, entertainment, dancing, and partaking in event rituals, it all disappears like an old dream. That is Diner En Blanc. It is an elaborate event that was started in France and has now shown up in over 70 cities. No one knows where the event is going to be held until 30 minutes before the arrival time. No two are the same. Each year, a new location. Guests arrive with their own table decor and food, dressed in the all-white uniform.
This was the second year Diner En Blanc has taken place in Orlando and I was lucky enough to attend. I got dressed up and headed to this year’s location; Lake Eola Park. While taking pictures, I paid special attention to the centerpieces, each one more elaborate than the last. Some people had votives and bouquets, some had statues, some had baskets. It was all beautiful! By the end of the night, the judges pick a winner and I am truly amazed that they are able to choose just one. The creativity and uniqueness of each display was incredible. You could really see how the individuals put their own taste and personality into their pieces.
WHAT I WORE
Like I said before, the ensemble is to be all white and let me tell you, I never realized how little white I actually had in my closet until now. Thankfully, I was able to put together something that fit the theme. My top is from LOFT, my pants are from American Eagle, my shoes are from Lizard Thicket Boutique, and my bag is from Rebecca Minkoff. See below for links.
